The Rohers club made one of their old fashioned killings today pulling the win in four innings. Our club came to the field today short one player due to travel and to illness. It is a well known fact that the Rohrers club has enough pitching material of the highest grade to make it a championship club as was demonstrated by the pitching of the big right hander, Jakob Biever.

With one man short, Rohrer`s manager Ken Grace recruited one of Miller`s players, their outstanding center fielder, Jared Lopez. Jared agreed to give it a go. Missing today was M.J. Oswald, Brent Kaunas, Blake Lipko and Dylan Grace.

The game started off in the first with some fine Ks by Jake, a great catch by catcher Drew Grace and a fine snag by T.J. Schappell at second with a throw to first for the out. At bat in the first, we went four and out with one single by Jake.

Second inning and Jake fanned three batters and Fesslers had a score on an error making it 1-0

At bat our boys went wild in the second. Chase had a double. Seth had a single. Jared walked and T.J. had a single and an rbi, Easton, a big single and RBI, Drew single, Dylan a double to deep center field, Jake a big double which made the score: 7-1. Nate walked on a full count. Chase had a pop up that was caught for the out. Seth went down swinging. And to end the inning, Jake was called out on a steal to third base which was a controversial call in the eyes of this reporter. He was called safe by the field umpire and over ruled by the home plate ump, a strange call to say the least.

One can not determine where the score will go with a renegade team such as Rohrers. Fortunately, the mercy rule was put into effect and the score stood at 13-3.

All in all our boys played another fine game today giving them a better chance at finishing number one at the end of the season. And a special thank you to Miller`s, Jared Lopez, who played a fine game for Rohrers. Also, a special thanks to Beth Biever on her taking over as first base coach.

As a sports writer, I was amazed at the speed and agility of the bat boy, Aidan Grace, who was out after each hit and on the bat like lighting. Good job, Aidan! I am sure he will be a future Rohrers ball player.

Now, we`re coming down to the wire as the season begins to wrap up.

1, 2, 3 Rohrers! Let the great team work continue.

Rohrer's Will Play Under The Lights This Season

ORWIGSBURG - Drew Grace and Aaron Bolinsky threw a baseball back and forth across the Memorial Field grass.
The two Orwigsburg Little League players will soon be able to play catch under the lights at the Grove Street field.
The Orwigsburg Little League recently installed a new lighting system at its major league field, a $40,000 project that was funded through community and business donations.
The Orwigsburg Little League begins its season Saturday, April 7, with the first twi-night doubleheader taking place Friday, April 13. The first game will start at 5:30 p.m., with the second game at 7:30.
"I love 'em," Grace said.
Added Bolinsky: "They're pretty cool. I can't wait to play under them."
The lighting project features four light standards, one near first base, one near third base, one in right field and one in left field. The lights were purchased from Musco Sports, an Iowa-based company.
The lights were fired up for the first time March 22 and could be seen throughout the borough.
"They've talked for years about putting lights at this field," said Brian Calderone, fundraising coordinator for the Orwigsburg Little League, while standing at the field Friday. "You can't call a game for darkness now."
The Orwigsburg Little League was established in 1954 and plays its games at Memorial Field. A nearby field, Benner Field, is used by the minor league teams. That field does not have lights.
The lighting project began after a board member for the Orwigsburg Little League
talked with neighbors who live near the field on Grove Street and got their approval.
Contributions from businesses and individuals in Orwigsburg and southern Schuylkill County made the effort possible, Calderone said. Letters were sent out asking for $2,000 for the lights, with half paid up front and the rest later.
"There's no way we could have done this without the community support," said Josh Biever, president of the Orwigsburg Little League.
In addition to the public donations, the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 743, based in Reading, and Bartush Signs, Orwigsburg, contributed in making the field a bright spot in the borough.
Eight people from the IBEW, who did electrical work and connected and donated wires necessary for the project, and six employees from Bartush worked at the field. Equipment was also donated by Bartush, an Orwigsburg-based company located adjacent to the complex. The poles came unassembled.
Each of the lights on the four poles have bulbs that are 1,500 watts. The two infield poles each have three lights; the right field pole has six lights, and the left field has five lights.
Calderone said the league thought cost might be a factor for running the lights, but the system is on a timer and will cost roughly $5 for a two-hour game. The lights are guaranteed for 25 years, said Douglas Fishburn, a member of the IBEW chapter.
The IBEW members donated their time because they like to give back to the communities they represent, said Jesse Shay, another IBEW worker.
The installation of the lights eliminates safety concerns due to insufficient lighting during games, and enables the Orwigsburg Little League to extend practice and game times and host District 24 Little League sectional tournaments, Calderone said.
Memorial Field presently is used for Orwigsburg's six major league teams which feature players ages 10-12. Children ages 7-9 play on Benner Field, Calderone said.
"This is only going to enhance their Little League experience," Biever said.
