A SEASON TO REMEMBER
ORWIGSBURG MEMORIAL FIELD
THE LAST GAME OF A FANTASTIC SEASON
ROHRERS 7 MILLERS 4
On June 12, 2012 the Rohrers Base Ball club took the field
for the final game of the regular season. Having already sewed up the
championship, it looked as though there was a lot of gaiety, light hearted
laughter and a general feeling of confidence in the club. The game would be
played against the Millers club.
I picked up the easy manner in which the
coaches and manager Grace walked about the diamond talking and laughing with
the club, and it seemed like it would be an interesting evening.
And it turned out
to be an interesting evening with Manger Grace allowing the ball players to
play all over the field in positions in which they were not normally assigned.
As far as I can remember, Drew Grace started off the pitching. From this point
on, I was a little at a loss trying to figure out who was playing where. Let`s
just say in six innings, that the twelve –year- olds got to pitch, with Drew
starting off. Jake then took the mound. M.J. fired a few. Seth Grube got to
hurl the apple along with Chase Weiser.
It was a fun,
relaxing game and the club came out on top once again. I guess the high light
was Jakob Biever’s smashing the apple out over right center for his ninth home
run of the season.
It was a fantastic
season for the club who went a remarkable 18-2 and won the championship. It was
one of the finest exhibitions of ball playing I’ve seen in years.
I want to say good
luck to all the ball players, especially to the 12- year -olds who, after the
all-star season, will move on. Also, good luck to the 11- year- olds who go to
all-stars and then return to the Rohrers club next year. Special thanks to the
coaches .They went the extra mile in giving the team their best advice,
encouragement and enthusiasm.
A HARDY HUZZAH AND
WELL DONE TO THE ROHRERS BALL CLUB.
